*pant pant punch*

Jeez, the last couple of weeks my freelance work has picked up and I've just wrapped two projects, and am about to start a simple one. Then next week I'll finally be able to focus on Psychostick stuff full time, like those videos I boasted about below. Hah... yeah. We shot the footage and I just ripped all of it, but haven't done anything with it yet due to me putting the energy needed into finishing these last couple of freelance jobs.

I'm hoping this tour will have a stupendous amount of success so that I don't have to do as much freelance work. That'd be nice!

Ok, gotta finish this stuff. Lots to talk about, so I'll be back latawr!

Video experiment!

I'm gonna try something here, and if it doesn't work out... well I'll blame gravity or something.

For those who send in questions about the band or whatever to me here, I'll try to answer in... VIDEO FORM! Yes. I'm going in over my head.

So ask away.

Video is good. So good.

My buddy Murph and I talked for over an hour last night about videos. Not specifically for Psychostick, but we brewed a lot of ideas on how to promote the band using some hilarious video shorts. Obviously ideas have never been a problem (well, maybe not that obvious to you), but planning, organization, management, etc. has always been a problem. A few years back Murph would fly down to visit us and we'd have all these ideas, but no planning in place, so nothing ever got done.

We wanted to make a parody RPG. We got about 10% done with it.

We wanted to shoot tons of awesome video shorts along these lines. Never happened.

"I'm surprised we actually finished the dumb song," Murph says.

I do believe that's been the only completed project that any of the Pluh.com staff actually 100% completed, aside from actual reviews. Of course we don't blame ourselves; our lack of planning and organization was the main issue. Now that we recognize and have a bit more overall maturity, I have absolute faith we'll get more created.

Of course, one thing I won't do now is annouce the project publically before it's underway or even completed. That way people looking forward to it won't get pissed if we have to delay it or it never gets done.

Now to start planning...

Breakfast Burritos.

I just had a potato, egg, bacon, and cheese breakfast burrito for lunch. That's right, I did it.

I rule so good.

Pluh.net - An opportunity I didn't see.

With all this web dev going on one of my clients has to switch hosts because her current host won't set her up with permissions she needs to upload images though a php script. Yeah, I don't get it. So I offered to host her. Then I realized I'm not even using Pluh.net for anything worthwhile. Idea! I know this is more common than salt in a bowl of potato chips (awesome analogy), but why not offer hosting to those who want? My server never EVER goes down and I know my setup very well.

I are smart.

So if you want to be hosted, contact me here for now. My rates aren't online yet, but once I get some stuff figured out I'll pop it up there. Hurrawr!

RSS Feed now available.

Yes indeed. Rawrb.com RSS feeds are now up and running. If you have one of those RSS readers, all you gotta do is pop this guy in there. Firefox has an RSS reader built in (add it by clicking on the Firefox RSS button next to the URL), and I think the new Safari does too in the same place as Firefox does. IE 7 probably does as well, but IE is stupid. Opera, I dunno. Rawr.

Anyway, enjoy it so good. Now I gotta add it to my other sites since I'm behind on this technollololgy nonsense.

Lots of band stuff to do.

Here's a small list of things I gotta do. I don't include it all because much of it is hush-hush.

  • Clean out that... exploded Rock Star residue from bottom of van. Gross.
  • Update Psychostick promo page
  • create more resources for the Dumb.
  • Consider, and maybe proceed with, a forums migration from Pluh to Psychostick. Long story.
  • Blarg Bog
  • Fun Facts
  • More show details (attach a flyer)
  • zip code e-mail utility search
  • Zipcode addon for The Dumb
  • Updated on date in FAQ
  • Rebuild of Psychostick back end

That's not even all of them. Woo. :)

Stupid band guys.

Just so everyone knows, no matter how big and famous a band gets, they all have "band guys" still in them. They're universal regardless of the success of the band. Musician creative types - talented and focused on many things, but bad with answering phone calls, returning phone calls, and many business related stuff.

Myself included on some levels. :)

That is all.

The woes of Mysql and Leopard.

Wow, how shocking was this. Right now I'm downloading PHP 5 for Leopard.

"But Rawrb, it comes installed with PHP 5!"

Shut up. It does. But it doesn't have the GD library! WHAT?! Yes, that's right. It's NOT ON THERE. Why would you exclude that? WHY?! So here I am. What a pain. Just for those who don't know, the GD library is an awesome feature that allows you to autothumbnail images on your websites. I use it like crazy

But no, that php thing is not my beef for today. No, my beef is MySql for Leopard.

Now at first I read that mysql comes pre-installed with Leopard. Incorrect. It's NOT pre-installed. So yes, I went to download and install it. Ok, cool, it's installed. I install the MySql Admin utility they offer at Mysql's website. It shows it as running. Oh, but wait! The mysql.sock file needs an alias created in the /var/mysql or the /tmp directory. What? Okay... sure. I dig around on the net, and I end up created two aliases without even knowing it, seemingly removing the original mysql.sock file. Ugh.

So I attempt to reinstall mysql, but it doesn't install a new mysql.sock file. Nope. It has a blank my.cnf file that I had to... create? Erase? I don't remember anymore. Blah.

I'm at my wit's end by this time. PHP works (no GD unbeknownst to me). Mysql is not working. After several attempts to find a solution, and posting on Apple's support site, I install the mysql.prefpane thingie that came with the Mysql dmg file downloaded with MySql itself.

Boom, it works! I reboot to make sure, and sure enough - it's working!

So in the migration to Leopard, somehow they decided to move the mysql.sock location? Why would you do that? Maybe I'm just confused. I'm happy now that I have it working.

Now to reinstall PHP 5. Not something I'm looking forward to. Maybe this time I'll get mod-rewrite to work on my local machine this time without breaking Apache or something. Fuck.

Rant OVAR!
